Alisa, Dental Assistant
Alisa received her training from J. Sargent Reynolds Community College and has worked in the dental field for 31 years. As Dr. Fortner’s dental assistant, she assists him during patient treatment. She passes instruments to him during procedures, takes x-rays, impressions, makes temporary crowns, cleans children’s teeth, places sealants, takes molds of patients’ teeth and more. “I love my patients,” says Alisa. “I feel like I am put here to help them through their dental visits. I love my co-workers too!” She continues, “I feel like we are a close-knit office. It feels more like a little family than a dental office!”
Colleen, Office Manager
Colleen received her training from J. Sargent Reynolds Community College and is also a Certified Dental Assistant. In her role with the practice, Colleen takes care of the billing, insurance, scheduling patients and all the administrative duties of the practice. She has worked in the dental profession since 1979, taking time away to be at home with her children, and returned, joining Dr. Fortner’s practice about a year ago. She’s thrilled to be there. “I love the people I work with and getting to know our patients,” she says. “I went to high school with Dr. Fortner and many patients are also former classmates or parents of school mates!”
Katherine, Registered Dental Hygienist
Katherine earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Randolph-Macon College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from MCU/VCU. She’s been in the dental profession for over 20 years. In her position at the practice she is responsible for the dental hygiene treatments of patients, including teeth cleaning, periodontal care, taking x-rays and more. But she also helps out wherever she is needed in the office. She enjoys her job, saying “I love working with patients and seeing the positive results they get from our care.”
Kim, Front Office
Kim has been in the dental profession for 32 years and with Dr. Fortner’s practice for 12 years. In her position, she is responsible for filing the patients’ insurance claims. She enjoys her job very much. “This practice is like a family,” she says. “Everyone works so well together.”
Martha, Registered Dental Hygienist
Martha earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from MCV/VCU and has been in working in the dental profession for 31 years. As a dental hygienist, she provides dental hygiene services to teenagers and adults including x-rays, cleaning, periodontal treatments, application of fluoride and desensitizing products and exams. “I love getting to know the patients and their family connections,” says Martha. “All the team members are veterans of the dental profession. We have a positive and supportive relationship and consider each other friends.” She thinks the practice is very unique.
Sue, Office Staff
Sue received her training from Acme Dental Lab and spent 32 years in the lab, making crown and bridge restorations. She joined Dr. Fortner’s practice several years ago. In her position, she takes care of schedules, insurance information, filing and more administrative duties. She enjoys her job, saying “I really love the patients we see and my co-workers! The patients really love coming here, which is really unique in dentistry!”
